The stork is here! Now what? Baby’s new room is a decorating challenge for most growing families. The room has to be as adorable as the baby itself, but it also must be able to mature with the child over time. With so many things to do and tasks to complete, the last thing a new mom wants to do is completely redecorate a child’s bedroom after a few short years! We solved this problem for one of our favorite ongoing clients with a timeless window makeover for their new bundle of joy, complete with room to grow!
My client moved into a new home and needed to decorate her infant daughter’s bedroom. The room to begin with was bright, clean and neutral. We needed to design window treatments that were pretty, feminine, and whimsical enough for use in a baby’s room. We also needed to remember that baby Sabrina was going to grow up…fast…and that the room needed to be able to adapt and mature to her own taste’s as she got older.
The neutral backdrop of the walls made the perfect canvas, and my client selected lovely neutral damask with a mild sheen as the primary fabric.
To create a whimsical feeling, we settled on a French Pick-Up Valance with a yummy cocoa accent fabric and dangling bead trim, complete with handmade rosettes. The balance struck between tradition and eclectic fun was the perfect choice for a room that’s meant to transition, and the custom details gave this valance a fun, girly twist for all ages.
I also crafted some custom pillows with matching handmade ribbon rosettes to help tie the whole look together.
My client incorporated beautiful wall art, accessories and blankets in baby blues and pinks for the nursery. These accent colors and accessories can easily be changed in the future as the baby gets older to alter the whole look and feel of the room without the hassle of changing the window treatments, thus saving my client time and money in the long run.
